LET’S TAX LUXURIES IN SF . . . IT’S ABOUT FREAKING TIME!

I recently sent this email to Councilor Jamison and CC’d Councilor Staggers. I can’t wait for the response!
Mr. Jamison-
I don’t live in your district, but I have to respond to some comments you
recently made in a television interview. You felt it was ‘FAIR’ to tax cable
because it is a luxury. I couldn’t agree more that we should tax luxury items.
Here is a list of luxury items I would love to see taxed MORE in Sioux Falls:
– Automobiles over $60,000 that are not used for business purposes
– Motorcycles
– Boats
– RV’s
– Half-million dollor homes and up
– Event tickets (Arena, Pavilion)
– Increase Hotel/Motel room tax
I think taxing these items would be more fair then taxing cable. Cable is
sometimes the ONLY luxury people can afford, not to mention it is not always a
luxury, for instance I got it as part of a package with my internet that I use
for my home business, it would have been the same price without cable.
We need to start moving away from regressive taxes and start moving towards
luxury taxes.
Thank you for your consideration and your public service,
Scott L. Ehrisman
